The Port Breaks in 2010 on cargo handle

Lázaro Cárdenas Port, February 17th, 2010- At the end of January, the Lázaro Cárdenas Port exhibit growth in total cargo handle, vessels arrival, container cargo and vehicles movement.

Total Cargo & Vessel Reception

In total cargo movement with 2 million 199, 573 tons, had increase of 13% respect same month of 2009 and 21% in agree of programmed.

In 2010 the cargo projection represented an increase of 9% with a total movement of 23 million 013,573 tons, respect 21 million 187, 412 tons of 2009, with this growth Lazaro Cardenas will consolidate as number one port in commercial cargo handled in Mexico.

In vessel reception, on the first month arrived at port 120 vessels with means an increase of 15% compared with January 2009. The port projection is the arrival of 1,233 (5% growth).

Lazaro Cardenas is the deepest port in Latin America, have 18 & 16.5 m its navigation channels with capacity to receive vessels of 7th generation, in this order the tendency will be receiving less vessels, but more cargo in bigger ships (scale economy).

Container Cargo

On handle container cargo, during January, Lazaro Cardenas Port had a growth 32%, 58,457 TEUs, with an increase on vessel container arrival of 13% and 2 new shipping lines since second half 2009.

This year the projection in container cargo is to end with 617,796 TEUs, 5% more than 2009, when handled 591,467 TEUs.

Automotive Sector

With 5,109 vehicles, the automotive sector showed up 68% of increase in last month, respect to January 2009.
