Recognition from SENASICA to the Port of Lazaro Cardenas
The Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection (OISA) of the Service for the National Health for Food Safety and Food Quality (SENASICA) who serves on the Port of Lazaro Cardenas as an authority on the detection of health risks in commodities and import cargo through this place, was recognized for actions to protect the agriculture of our country through their work. It is the first time that such recognition is given by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) under the 20th anniversary of SENASICA activities, the OISA in the Port of Lazaro Cardenas has excelled in the early detection and in the appropriated form of exotic pests and diseases for the country in such way that has been awarded among the 200 existing OISAs in Mexico. The SENASICA work, through OISAs and Phytosanitary Inspection Points is aimed at preventing the entry to the country of exotic pests and diseases that could cause serious damage to Mexican ecosystem and hence the economic activities related to agriculture and livestock and marketing of Mexicans products abroad.
Among the detections that OISA has made in the Port of Lazaro Cardenas are insects and seeds that are non-existent in our country as weed seeds Cuscuta sp., Brevipalpuschilensis insects in apricots, Berkshiria Mosquita sp. and the Brown Weevil Flour Tribolimcastaneum on sesame, plus some mutton shipments contaminated with fecal matter, so that this authority work done in Lazaro Cardenas and other points of entry into Mexico is critical to prevent the introduction of products that may pose a health or safety risk.
