Port of Lázaro Cárdenas, October 8th, 2009.- During the 15ª Conference of Asia Pacific Quality Organization (APQO) celebrated yesterday in México City, the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas and eleven companies were awarded with the International Pacific Quality Award 2009, recognition that distinguishes to the exemplary companies in terms of effectiveness in world-wide quality.

The APQO is an non lucrative organization main promoter of the quality and continuous improvement of the goods and services as well as of the quality of life in the Asia Pacific Region; founded and organized by the National Organizations of Quality of the countries of Asia and America with coast to the Pacific, constituted in the Philippines in 1985 and with presence in Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, the United States and Vietnam.

Since 2001; APQO grants the International Prize of Quality Asia Pacific, by the Malcolm Baldrige Prize evaluation methodology of the United States and only the organizations who have received the National Prize of Quality in their respective country can compete for this international prize.

In this order, when the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas received the National Prize of Quality 2008 and in the constant search of continuous improvement; the port continued with the goal of the obtaining of the International Pacific Quality Award 2009.

The executive report was evaluated on the basis of the following fundamental criteria: 1. - Leadership 2. - Strategic Planning 3. - Approach to the Market and the Client. 4. - Knowledge and Analysis 5. – Management and Human Resources Development 6. - Administration of Processes 7. – Businesses Results.

the President of the APQO and the Executive Committee of the International Pacific Quality Award; informed to the Port Administration of Lázaro Cárdenas the obtaining of the prize through the following official notice:

“We are very glad to announce the organizations of Asia and the Pacific who are being recognized like exemplary companies of the class of effectiveness of world-wide quality. They have obtained the highest Qualification in the Malcolm Baldrige Excellence Performance Award model".

It was so; the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas became creditor to this distinction under the category of Better in its Class like Small Organization of Services.

During the Award ceremony the awarded organizations of the International Pacific Quality Award; showed a presentation of the quality model practiced in their companies focused to their respective development sector, the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas denominated his quality model as The Competitiveness as a factor Success.

With the obtaining of this prize the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas knows its own challenges in the search by the total quality and represents without a doubt a stimulus mechanism towards the continuous understanding and improvement of the quality like an important impeller of the economy and the development, of the own company, its users and of the context that surrounds the port.
